Blogtober 1th

Okay, it's October 1. Time to give in to the peer pressure from Keener Mom, and participate in the joy that is Blogtoberfest.

I don't think it's a real thing. (Sound of googling) Okay, it's a real thing.

So yay, woohoo, let's begin.

It's 4:43 in the blessed a.m. and I've been up for about two hours. And I'm not happy about it. Been sleeping on the couch for a week and a half, as my mom's been visiting. Not complaining about that, mind you. It's been nice and it's over today. She's heading home.

I won't pretend I'm not happy to be getting my bed back, but I will miss mom. Sonwun and Sontoo like having her around and it's just been nice catching up, playing cribbage and just kinda hanging out. It's tough living so far from family, so it's nice to get together once in a while.

We capped off her visit last night with Christmas in September. Why? Why not? In the 12 years or so that we've been removed from family, Grammas and Grampas have faithfully sent gifts, but they rarely get to see the kids open them. Not fair. Part of the joy of giving, after all, is seeing the little faces light up when they tear through the paper and find "just what I always wanted."

While Gramma was out for her visit, she and Neomom took a trip to Winnipeg to do a little shopping and, rather than pay for shipping later, Gramma picked out Christmas presents for the boys. Then we decided she should see them open them. Thus, Christmas in September.

We cooked up a turkey, with all the trimmings and we feasted. I stuffed myself. Which is probably contributing to the insomnia.

Anyoo, gonna work my way into this Blogtoberfest slowly. So that's it's for today. Don't want to let all the magic happen on Day 1.

Merry Boxing Day. And have a great Tuesday.

So close . . .

Okay, in spite of what the naysayers have to say (coT cough I couFFgh A cough couNgh Ycough . . . excuse me), we pretty much completed the bathroom reno in two days. And I maintain we could have done it in one IF I had all the parts ready to go. That was my error.

While it may take SOME people two day to clean a room, (coT cough I couFFgh A cough couNgh Ycough . . . excuse me), I can renovate in two. HA!

Sorry to the rest of you, but I was roundly mocked and criticized by a fellow blogger, who shall remain nameless, for suggesting a one-day reno was even possible. I still say it is. HA!

Anyhoo, last night, at about 7:30, I put the toilet back in place. That was after putting the vanity back in place. And that was after prepping the floor and installing the new vinyl flooring. And I even had a nap today. So there, nameless one.

It is awesome, mostly. It would be completely awesome if a certain store, that shall remain nameless, RONA, had the countertop it claimed to have two of, earlier in the day. But did NOT have  at 6 p.m., in spite of the fact the store inventory computer claimed to have both. Grrrrrrr.

So today, to spite the nameless box store, I shall head to Winnipeg in search of the perfect vanity countertop. For I have the perfect taps ready to install in said countertop. Okay, so it's not just spite, I want this freakin' job DONE!

Oh, and Sontoo has a nasty, nasty little cough that has kept him awake for a few minutes every hour, throughout the night. And that means I've been awake most of the night, as I can not go quickly and peacefully back to slumberland after my hot honey and lemon drink.

I am so tired, in fact, that I stuck the SD memory card from my camera into the disk drive on my computer this morning and had to fish it out with two knives. It was not easy . . . and I'm tired.

Anyhoo, that's it, other than a few quick renovation pictures. Have a great, um, Saturday. Yeah, Saturday.

It starts.

Midway

End of Day 1

End of Day 1 from other side.

End of Day 2. If I'd had the countertop, it WOULD have been installed.

Ugh

If you thought I rambled yesterday . . .

Good, uh, morning. And Happy New Year's Eve, 2011. And, if you believe those wacky Mayans, enjoy your final New Year's Eve on this planet. Live it up.

So, it's been a long night. Woke up at 3:30— bad. And a bad habit I've managed to foster. But I've been training myself to get back to sleep. So I picked up my book and started reading. Got maybe one chapter done before I was sleepy again. Turned off the light and started to drift off . . .

"Daaaaaaadddddddyyyyyyyy. I want Daaaaaaaddddddddyyyyyy."

Aw crap. Someone had a bad dream, or slept on his arm wrong, or the cat is bothering him, or he's worried about the whole Mayan thing. Who knows?

So, like any good daddy, I yell up the stairs: "Go back to sleep or you'll wake the monsters in your closet."

Now two kids are screaming.

Just kidding.

I crawl out of my nice warm bed and head for the boys' room. It's Sonwun this time. His face hurts. He's not really awake, but he's irritated. And noisy. I ask where it hurts and, in the dark, it seems he's indicating his jaw. I rub the sore spot, try to be soothing and soon he's less irritated and, it seems, back to sleep.

I ponder the possibilities: grinding teeth, maybe he whacked his face while we were tobogganing yesterday, whatever. He's asleep and I'm still pretty sleepy myself.

Back to bed, move the cats out of the warm spot, crawl in . . . start to drift off . . .

"Daaaaaaddddddy."

Aw crap.

Well, to make a long story a little shorter, this went on two more times before Sonwun drifted off for good. And, as I write this at 6:08 a.m., he's still sleeping like a baby. I, however, have not been back to sleep, although I did manage to finish reading several chapters in my book. wahoo.

So I don't know about you, but, with Neomom on night shift, I've got no major plans for this evening, except for watching the Canada-USA World Junior Hockey game. Here's hoping it's a little more interesting than all of the games so far. Nice to see Canada dominating, but it's making for some boring games. Hard to watch the third period when we're leading 8-0 after two.

Anyway, that's all I got this morning. Have a great day, and I'll see you next year.
